Description

This collection of vehicles from the Matchbox range produced by the legendary British manufacturer Lesney includes eleven models from various eras in the company's history, though though most date to before the mid-80s when manufacture was moved to Macau. Condition and scale varies, but all appear to be complete. Please note that none of the models have boxes, and are being sold as a job lot and as seen.

• No. 44 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, C.1958-1963 - a very early model first introduced when Lesney had been in business for only five years, before adopting the Matchbox name and when the vehicles really did fit into matchboxes. In very light metallic blue, these basic models do not feature opening doors, window transparencies, suspension or interiors. The paint has a few chips but is better than most unrestored examples and overall the condition is good - all four original wheels are present and rotate despite a bent front axle. The chassis seems to be slight bent but I can't be certain if this is damage or a manufacturing fault; either way, it leaves the car with quite a stylish stanced look. Dimensions (L x W): 6.8 x 2.4cm

• No 7 King Size Curtiss Wright Tractor & Dumper - produced between 1961 and 1967, this was one of the most popular in the King Size range and thanks to the tipper trailer begs to be played with in the sandpit, which means relatively good examples such as this are hard to find. In yellow with decals either side - one decal is in very good condition, the other is scuffed. All six wheels and tyres are present and in good order but the tractor's rear axle is bent. There are several chips in the paint, but overall the finish is sound. Dimensions (L x W): 15 x 5.2cm

Other vehicles, in various condition but all complete and including their full set of wheels, include:

• No 56 BMC 1800 Pininfarina (1969), in metallic gold with cream interior. Cracks in windscreen; transparency otherwise good. Doors straight and still open and close. All four Superfast wheels on straight axles; suspension working. Dimensions (L x W): 7.2 x 3cm

• No 5 Lotus Europa (1969), in glossy dark blue wth cream interior. No cracks in the transparency, doors open and close and the towbar is still in place (the Europa being well-known as a towing car, of course). All four Superfast wheels are intact but the front axle is slightly bent; paint chipped and badly scuffed on front of roof. Dimensions (L x W): 7.2 x 3cm

• No 41 Ford GT (produced 1970-1979, no year on model), in white with a blue stripe and "6", red interior. Badly cracked windscreen with missing section, transparency over engine in very good condition. The four original Superfast wheels are worn but spin nicely on straight axles. Dimensions (L x W): 6.8 x 3cm

• No 51 Combine Harvester (1971) in red with yellow plastic auger and elevator pipe. Some minor scuffs but overall in very good condition with the elevator pipe being an uncommon survival. All four wheels intact on straight axles; auger rotates correctly. Dimensions (L x W): 8 x 3.5cm

• No 24 Shunter (1978) in yellow with red chassis, buffers and stickers; red towing hitch front, black towing hitch back. Produced without window transparencies and interior. Some minor chips but overall paint is good. All four Superfast wheels intact and rotating freely on straight axles. Stickers both sides a little scuffed but acceptable. Dimensions (L x W): 8 x 3.3cm

• Peterbilt Truck with Trailer (1981, no model number, made in England) - truck white with green and black graphics; trailer green and white with "Interstate Trucking" livery on removable canopy. Orange transparency very good; chromed interior and driver. Plastic canopy intact, stickers acceptable. The wood-effect plastic is cracked on the passenger side of the trailer, but no parts are missing. The chromed plastic parts are all intact but one exhaust is bent. Dimensions (L x W): 17.5 x 3cm

• Peterbilt Cement Truck (1981, no model number, made in Macau) in metallic green with white and yellow graphics and an orange and black mixer. Orange transparency good; chromed interior and driver. All chromed plastic parts are intact but the chrome is rubbing off the exhausts, both of which are bent. Mixer tips correctly; all six wheels rotate on straight axles. Dimensions (L x W): 7.8 x 3cm

• No 58 Truck and Articulated Trailer (1973, made in England) in yellow and blue without the yellow chevrons featured on some versions. One of the more uncommon models, also known as the 50D and based on an unknown real-life vehicle. Some chips but overall the paint is good. Orange transparency is scuffed but has no cracks; manufactured without an interior. All six Superfast wheels rotate freely in straight axles. Dimensions (L x W): 8 x 2.9cm

• Kenilworth Cab-Over Truck with Low-Bed Trailer (1981, no model number, made in Macau) - truck in black with white and red graphics, trailer in dark grey. Chromed plastic parts all intact, but one exhaust is bent; orange window transparencies scuffed but no cracks. All 10 wheels rotate freely on straight axles. Dimensions (L x W): 17 x 3cm

In addition to the above, the collection includes a Hot Wheels "31 Doozie" (#9649, 1976, dark/light green, missing canopy), Lledo "Days Gone" vintage van (#0818, unknown date, yellow/white with Fyffes livery), Land Rover Defender (unknown manufacturer/model/date, dark blue with Duckhams QXR Race Support livery) and a Lesney Matchbox helicopter (#1.110, 1982, black with orange window transparency, Aircar livery, one missing rotor blade).

About Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Its ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping them to make every moment count.

Around 4,000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
