Description

A beautiful vintage viewfinder camera from German manufacturer Goldammer, who produced a range of cameras at first Frankfurt and then Mühlheim am Main between the 1920s and 1960s.

Though never a rival to Leica in terms of quality, their early cameras were certainly well made and this one is no different - all-metal construction, combined with an unusually fast lens (more on that later), made it a popular choice among serious and professional photographers who couldn't quite stretch to Leica prices.

It's certainly an oddity with plenty of unusual quirks, chief of which is that Steiner-Bayreuth pull-out lens with its f/2.9 aperture which is far faster than most comparable cameras of the era and which, combined with a narrowest aperture of f/22, made it highly versatile and usable in a much wider range of lighting conditions than even many of Leica's offerings.

Of course, Goldecks don't fetch anything like Leica prices either, but as more and more people develop an interest in film photography and vintage cameras the lesser-known German brands look set to increase in value in the coming years.

We're supplying this one with a gorgeous Gossen Sixon CF colour finder exposure meter, also made in Germany and dating to the same period. One of numerous models in the Gossen range (most of which feature the word "six" in their names - in addition to the Sixon there was a Sixtus, a Lunasix and, later on, a Digisix), it's powered by a selenium cell and despite being almost 70 years old remains in full working order.

With its chrome side panels and clever concertina cover, it's about as 1950s in style as anything could possibly be and is truly an attractive item - far prettier than the dull, black plastic modern versions. Very unusually, this example remains in its orginal box, with instruction manual.

The camera body is in reasonably good condition, with a few scuffs and scrapes most notably to the top panel, but there are no major faults such as cracks or dents and the leatherette covers are in excellent shape with no peeling. The built-in timer and shutter are sticky and require attention. The optics are free of scratches but do have some minor dirt, and there are a few specks of dust and some spots of fungus inside, while the viewfinder is clean and bright. This type of pull-out lens is notorious for light leakage and there is some wobble, but while I've not been able to carry out a full test (due to a lack of 120 film), the camera is solid and will require only fairly minor attention to get it back to full working order - well within the realms of what a skilled amateur restorer could achieve.

The exposure meter has some discolouration on the bottom and the label on the front is a little scuffed, but is overall in excellent and fully working condition. Its silver chain, complete with pocket clip bearing the Gossen logo, is also excellent. The instruction manual's front cover has been clipped, but is tightly bound without missing pages and there is no annotation. The box is intact but has some scuffs commensurate with its age and many years spent in camera bags, and has a previous owner's name written inside.

Its 'Outstanding' services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping them to make every moment count.

More than 4,100 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients' own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Day Therapy and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £8.56 million in 2020/2021 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. £4.29 million has currently been secured from the NHS, meaning that £4.27 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
