Description

Agfa were once one of the largest manufacturers of cameras in the world, and with over a century and a half in the business they know a thing or two about how to make a good one, so their models were right up there with the best in the world. Sadly, they eventually found themselves unable to compete with Far Eastern imports and decided to sell off the camera side of the business - but the managers, convinced that there were still people out there who would pay a little extra for a compact digital camera if it was better quality, raised the enormous sum of €175.5 million to buy it. They were right - now known branded as AgfaPhoto and still based in Germany where the company had started out, it remains a going concern to this day and has in fact grown, now offering televisions, storage meedia and a wide range of other products as well as cameras.

The DC-2030b is an elegant thing with its glossy black and chrome casing emulating the classic looks of cameras from decades ago while its tiny dimensions - a mere 9cm wide by 6cm tall - mean it's an ideal snapper to carry around all day, in a pocket or bag, ready to shoot any photo opportunities that arise. One drawback to very small, kightweight cameras is it can be difficult to hold them steady, but AgfaPhoto built in a very effective electronic vibration reduction system to compensate for that, which also helps offset the relatively slow maximum aperture of f/3.5 - thanks to the vibration reduction, it's possible to shoot at slower shutter speeds in low light without ending up with badly blurry photos.

There's an enormous range of features too, including an impressive 22 scene modes so you can simply tell the camera what you're shooting and it'll select all the best setting for you while you concentrate on the action, as well as face detection, smile detection and even blink detection - it can detect your subject's eyes closing, then automatically take another photo a fraction of a second later once their eyes are fully open again. One other feature which has won it many fans is the YouTube function: record a video in 640 x 480 format and it can be uploaded to the video-sharing site without any further adjustment. Finally, the camera is powered by two standard AA batteries: whilst this limits the number of shots that can be taken before it runs out of juice compared to rechargeable Li-On batteries, AA cells are easily available everywhere - if you've ever forgotten to charge a camera battery before an important event, you'll know how useful this can be.

The camera has been tested and was found to be in full working order. It's also in excellent condition without any scratches or dents to the outer shell and the chrome is shiny and bright. The covers over the USB socket, battery compartment and SD card slot are all in place and work perfectly, as do all the buttons and controls. The screen has a small scratch at the top but it's shallow and can't be seen when the camera is in use, and the flash is working. Most importantly, the optics are clean - there are no marks on the first element nor dust or fungus inside the barrel. It's supplied with a woven nylon carrying case, a wrist strap, a quick guide, a user manual, a CD-Rom and a compatible USB cable for easy transfer of photos to a computer.

About Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Its ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping them to make every moment count.

Around 4,000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
