Amazon got nearly everything right with the first generation versions of their Echo Dot smart speakers, which went a long way towards persuading (most of) the public that there was nothing weird about talking to what looked like a hockey puck sitting on your shelf, but it wasn't perfect - audio quality was acceptable but not brilliant, and the microphones didn't always pick up commands and questions. The second generation devices improved matters considerably - but then with the third generation, they nailed it.

Interestingly, the third gen Dots have only four microphones, three fewer than its ancestors; however, they were of a newly designed type and worked well enough that it simply wasn't necessary to fit more - unless background noise is really harsh, it does a very fine job of picking up commands even from another room. You still need to speak clearly, but now there's no need to speak slow RP.

The audio was overhauled entirely, replacing the weedy 3cm drivers in the older Dots with an all-new 4cm model. That fairly small increase in dimensions brought a big increase in volume, of 70%, while quality was improved too so that it matches that of a premium quality DAB radio - in fact, it's entirely possible to use the Dot as a radio, and it's especially suitable for use as a kitchen radio where, thanks to Alexa, it won't end up covered in flour and other ingredients.

This one is the ever popular charcoal colour, which manages to be both eye-catching and understated at the same time so that it fits into any surroundings - if you live in an ultramodern, minimalist city apartment it looks stylish sat on your Bauhaus-inspired shelves, but if you live in a traditional country cottage it'll bend into the background. It's been used and has a few very light scuffs as a result (that soft-touch coating on the top and bottom panels never stays pristine for long), but overall condition is very good with no serious defects. It's been function tested and was found to be in full working order, and is supplied with a PAT tested UK-type mains adapter.

Some low-value items will be sent by Royal Mail 2nd Class. Some items of higher value are sent by Royal Mail Signed For or Special Delivery, which require a signature. If you are not present at the time of delivery, a card will be left instructing you to arrange a redelivery, or to collect your order from the local sorting office.

Change of Mind

If when you receive your order you are not completely satisfied, you may return the items to us within 30 days for a refund. Returns will be processed within three working days once the goods have been received by us.

Items must be returned to us in the same condition as they were received by you. Around 4,000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
