Description

British company RM Toys has more than fifty years of model-making experience and has earned an enviable reputation for excellent quality and accurate representation of even the smallest details. Atlas Editions, its premium range of 1:72 scale aircraft models, has been especially popular, with collectors noting that the quality is equal - or even superior - to that of other diecast models costing two or three times as much.

The majority of the items in the Atlas line-up are supplied as single models; however, this is a collector's edition twin pack featuring a Supermarine Spitfire MkI and its arch enemy, a Messerschmitt BF109E. Of course, for a company as obsessed with detail as RM Toys, simply producing a generic Spitfire and a generic BF109E wouldn't be good enough - these are replicas of the Spitfire flown by Squadron Leader (later Wing Commander) Bob Stanford-Tuck and the German ace Adolf Galland. Curiously, the two men met during the War - after Stanford-Tuck was downed over Occupied France, Galland invited him to dinner (he's the very same Galland who allowed Douglas Bader to sit in his Messerschmitt and arranged for a replacement prosthetic to be flown from England for him); after the War they became friends with Galland frequently visiting Standford-Tuck's farm in Kent, and both men served as technical directors for the 1969 film Battle of Britain.

Both aircraft are extremely finely detailed right down to the joins between fuselage panels and the rust on their exhausts, while it's evident upon picking them up that they're been produced to a very high standard - they have a pleasing heft to show that they're made of thick metal, with no attempts to cut costs during the diecasting process. Paintwork and parts are up to scratch too. Both are supplied with plastic display stands, allowing them to be posed as though flying a mission. Please note that both aircraft have some damage: one of the Spitfire's propellor blades is badly bent but remains attached - it's likely to fall off if straightened, but it should be possible to glue in back into place; the BF109E's radio aerial has broken off entirely (as seen in the 10th photo), but is included in the box and should also be easy to repair. Neither aircraft has any scratches or other damage to its paintwork, nor are there any dents, cracks or other issues.

They are supplied in their original box with deep polystyrene inserts to keep them safe during transit, along with the stands. Also included is a full-colour booklet providing details on the aircraft and their pilots, and a metal key ring featuring a representation of a Spitfire.

About Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Its ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping them to make every moment count.

Around 4,000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
