If you've ever wondered how French bakers get their baguettes to be so delightfully fluffy and pleasingly chewy on the inside with a perfect crunchy crust, here's the answer - rather than just rolling the dough into a baguette shape and sticking it in the oven like us rosbifs, they use baguette bakers like this one, which can bake three demi-baguettes to perfection every time.

They're very simple to use, consisting of just a heavy ceramic base with one or more slots into which the dough is based and a cover with some holes that will retain some of the steam as the baguettes bake - by doing so, the baguette baker maintains the exact level of humidity for excellent results.

One of the best-known baguette baker makers is the legendary kitchenware manaufacturer Emile Henry, founded by Jacques Henry in Burgundy all the way back in 1850 in a tiny village workshop equipped with manual potters' wheels and two small, wood-fired kilns. Nevertheless, the company's products proved to be of excellent quality and were in high demand by professional chefs and bakers, as well as for use in chateaux kitchens - by the time Jacques' son Paul took over in 1882 it was already a fairly large concern, but Paul took it even further by expanding into Paris where he built a new workshop with 40 workers, gas-powered wheels and coal-fired kilns.

In 1912 and at great expense, Paul replaced the wheels and other machinery with the very latest steam-powered technology. This could very easily have bankrupted the company because metal cookware had become very popular in France just as it still is today, but Paul - and from 1922, his son and successor Emile - were able to emphasise the quality of their range and, in a time when many potteries were going out of business, managed to retain an astonishing 40% of the kitchenware trade. Emile died in 1950 and was replaced as chairman by his own son Maurice, who expanded the business even further; then he was replaced in turn by another Jacques, his son, in 1983, and then he was replaced by his son Jean-Baptiste in 2012 - and so Emile Henry remains in the private ownership of the Henry family, as it has for the entirety of its 172-year history.

This baguette baker has been used and, as a result, there are a few tiny scuffs to the exterior; however, these are very minor and do not affect use, nor detract from the beauty of the object. The rich burgundy red finish, produced using Emile Henry's trademarked Céramique HR® process (which, in addition to looking fabulous, is non-stick - even hard, baked-on dough will wash straight off after a few minutes' soaking in warm water), is glossy and vibrant. Inside, some slight wear can be seen but there are no chips or similar damage to the three slots or their ridges, which are designed to prevent the dough sticking and allow heat to circulate under the baguette, making it absolutely useable just as it is.

The original packaging has been lost, but our shipping department will wrap it in plenty of protective materials to ensure that it reaches you in the same condition.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
