Description

Eastablished in 1930 from the merger of two sheet music companies (which can trace their history right back into the 19th Century), London's Boosey & Hawkes grew to become the largest publisher of classical music in the world with offices in many nations. Up until 2003 when the company went through financial difficulties, it was also a leading manufacturer of brass, string and woodwind musical instruments, with a reputation for excellent quality right across the range from the most affordable beginners' instruments through to the bespoke versions produced for professional orchestras.

The Regent was their entry level student clarinet and as such is made of Resonite rather than wood, but is nevertheless a good quality instrument featuring nickel silver metalwork and traditional cork rather than plastic or rubber.

It's a Bb instrument (B-flat; Ebay doesn't allow the proper symbol) and bears the serial number 470980, which would correspond to manufacture in either 1969 or 1970, and while there are some scratches on the bell rim and reverse of the lower joint it's in excellent condition - there are no deep scratches, no cracks, all the metalwork is bright, shiny and working properly and the cork appears to have been recently refurbished. All five sections seem to be original, and the mouthpiece is in good order and retains its metal cap, which has two very small dents but remains perfectly usable.

The instrument comes with a hard shell case lined with soft red fabric and split into sections for each part, five spare reeds (1x 1.5 regular, 1x 2 French, 2x 2 regular, 1x 2.5 French), a cotton cleaning cloth and a glass container containing a small amount of reed oil. The case has some light wear inside and out but is structurally sound with working latches (please note the key has been lost) and the reeds are new and unused.

• Case Dimensions (W x L x H): 35 x 19 x 9cm (13.75 x 7.5 x 3.5")

About Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Its ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping them to make every moment count.

Around 4,000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
