Description

This collection of diecast military vehicles and guns consists of a total of 16 items (list below) and includes 12 made by the very collectable Dinky brand.

The rarest is probably the Char AMX tank, produced for just one year at Dinky's French factory in Bobigny in the northeastern suburbs of Paris, and it's in reasonable condition too despite one broken track.

However, some of the others interesting are more interesting. The Crescent Toys 1250 Artillery Gun has lost a lot of paint but stands out simply because it was made by Crescent, a company which lasted from 1922 until 1980 but has been largely forgotten despite the quality of many of its toys, including this one, being easily equal to Dinky - the level of fine detailing on this example is superb, and the spring-loaded matchstick firing mechanism is still working well. For me, though, the Britains Mobile Search Light is the best of all - available in a stationary version as well as this towed version with wheels, it actually lights up when connected to a battery (though this one will need a new bulb; it worked when we tested it but only for a couple of seconds before the bulb blew).

Full List
1 Britain's 1640 or 9764 Mobile Search Light (1961-1962?). Missing stabiliser at front, and missing part from right-side stabiliser; original screws connecting light to base have been replaced with stiff wire.
2 Corgi Toys 353 Decca Airfield Radar (1959-1961). Antenna part is broken, but snapped part is preserved with the rest and could be glued back on.
3 Crescent Toy Co. 1250 25 PDR Artillery Gun (pre-1980). Lots of paint loss, but otherwise good condition.
4 Dinky Supertoys 651 Centurion Tank (1954-1970). Stretched tracks, light rust on chassis, non-original black cross on front.
5 Dinky Toys 80C Char AMX (Made in France; 1958-1959). Broken track, light rust to chassis.
6 Dinky Toys 673 Scout Car (1959-1953) 1. Some paint loss, driver intact.
7 Dinky Toys 673 Scout Car (1959-1953) 2. Better paint than above; driver intact.
8 Dinky Toys 688 Field Artillery Tractor (towbar below chassis; 1957-1970). Same model as below, but the towbar is separate part held in place by the rivet; some paint loss, but overall good.
9 Dinky Toys 688 Field Artillery Tractor (towbar part of chassis; 1957-1970). Same model as above, but the towbar and chassis are one piece of metal; rusty chassis and some paint loss, but overall good.
10 Dinky 686 25 Pounder Field Gun (1958-1968) 1. Same model as below, designed to work with the 688 Artillery Tractor. I believe, based on the more distinct moulding underneath, that this one is older than the model below.
11 Dinky 686 25 Pounder Field Gun (1958-1968) 2. Same model as above, designed to work with the 688 Artillery Tractor. I believe, based on the less distinct moulding underneath, that this one is less old than the model above and was made from more worn moulds.
12 Dinky Toys 687 Trailer 25PR Gun (1958-1968). Designed to work with the 688 Artillery Tractor and 686 Field Gun (above). On this one, the writing on the chassis is right way up with the drawbar pointing downwards. Please note lost tyre.
13 Dinky Toys 687 Trailer 25PR Gun (writing faces towbar; 1958-1968). Designed to work with the 688 Artillery Tractor and 686 Field Gun (above). On this one, the writing on the chassis is right way up with the drawbar pointing upwards.
14 Dinky Toys 693 7.2 Howitzer (1957-1966). Very nice condition with only marginal paint loss.
15 Dinky Toys 692 5.5 Medium Gun (1955-1962). Minor paint loss, but overall a nice item. Both the stabilising legs are intact and straight.
16 Lesney Matchbox 64 Scammel Breakdown Truck (1959-1965). Missing towing hitch and rope. Not as much detail as the other items, but a nice little model. Most examples have a green bed, but this one is painted brown (apparently at the factory) to resemble wood.
17 Britains Cannon. Fitted with working matchstick firing mechanism. Lower quality than the rest, but acceptable condition despite wonky wheels.

About Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Its ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping them to make every moment count.

Around 4,000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
