Swiss company Elna started out in 1934 and was originally a watch exporter, but asoon purchased a design for a sewing machine from a Spanish engineer named Dr. Ramon Casas Robert and, by 1940, sewing machines had become the mainstay of the business. Over the coming years, the company introduced numerous innovations and their machines were the top choice of professional users and keen amateurs alike.One of their most famous innovations was the Lotus range, which are commonly considered to be the first truly portable sewing machines to offer a full range of features: with numerous automatic and "superautomatic" stitches including straight, darning, zigzag, special zigzag, triple zigzag, tricot, blind, elastic blind, embroidery, edging, satin, tapered satin, buttonhole and overcasting it can do almost anything a full size machine can do yet measures only 31cm in length and weighs only 7kg. Elna also spent a lot of time getting the ergonomics right, so that unlike some compact machines it's not fiddly to use - which meant that it was popular not only as a portable machine but with users who didn't have the space to set up a dedicated sewing room. A really clever feature is the side flap, which both protects the machine when not in use and, by placing something underneath it, doubles up as an extension table.
The Lotus models were available in four variants, namely the Lotus-ec economy model, the Lotus-zz mid-range machine, the high end Lotus-sp and, finally, this model - the top of the range Lotus-tsp (or Top Special). All the models, but especially the Lotus-tsp, were known for their robust build and reliability and that certainly shows in this one - although it dates to the middle of the 1970s (and is therefore the same age as me) it's in full working order, with all original features performing exactly as intended (unlike me); it's been extensively tested by our retired seamstress Pam who reports no problems with it, though as with any vintage sewing machine it's recommended to have it serviced just to ensure all moving parts are correctly lubricated.
It's in excellent cosmetic condition too, suggesting it was used at home rather than as a portable machine: there are a few marks on the exterior, but these are extremely minor and do not detract from the attractively functional Swiss design. It's fitted with a working bulb and comes with both its manuals, one of which is a guide to the machine and the other a selection of sewing tips, and the combined (UK type) power cord and pedal, but please note there are no other accessories.

Change of Mind
If when you receive your order you are not completely satisfied, you may return the items to us within 30 days for a refund. Returns will be processed within three working days once the goods have been received by us.
Items must be returned to us in the same condition as they were received by you. This includes, but is not limited to: original packaging, original boxes, packaging materials, manuals, blank warranty cards, accessories and documents. We reserve the right to refuse a return or deduct an amount for lost value where the item is returned in a different condition.
We strongly recommend that you fully insure your package that you are returning, as well as using a carrier that can provide you with tracking information or proof of delivery.

Around 4,000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.
Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.
It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
