Markets and mail order companies are so awash with cheap and nasty carriage clocks that it's easy to assume every one you see is a poorly made, unreliable piece of tat - and indeed, the vast majority of modern examples are.However, traditional carriage clocks are still made, and one of the very best companies making them was Henley, a traditional firm that produced a range of clocks to a very high standard and in the time-honoured way. Like so many other companies of its type, Henley was unable to compete with cheap imports on price and went out of business some years ago, but after a 20-year hiatus they're once again being made, thanks to the English Carriage Clock Company of Bridport in Dorset which purchased the name, original designs and tooling and put them back into production.
The English Carriage Clock Company came up with a new way of printing the faces that is all but indistinguishable from the original Henley clocks, but very wisely didn't change anything about the Henley mechanism nor the materials and methods required in constructing them. So, just like the other models in the Henley range the Anglaise carriage clock we see here is made of the same clockmaker grade solid brass and steel and the same beveled glass panels, and it also has the same 11 jewelled lever platform escapements it always had, meaning it's as reliable as ever and will run for a full eight days once wound.
Needless to say, a clock of this quality is not cheap: a brand new Henley Anglaise is £1799*. That's a lot of money but the clock will last a lifetime and beyond, becoming a treasured family heirloom (and, of course, one that will in time become even more valuable) - after all, the oldest working antique carriage clocks date to around 1810 t0 1820 and are of similar quality to the Anglaise. It's a reasonably safe bet that those £10 plastic ones on the market won't last quite that long.
Henley clocks are supplied with a double-ended key, also in high quality brass, used to both wind and adjust the clock mechanism. This one is damaged at one end as seen in the photos, which means that while it can still be used to adjust the time but cannot wind the clock - a previous owner has modified a bicycle lock key, also seen in the photos, and it serves this purpose perfectly. The clock itself is a little tarnished, and since some collectors prefer the vintage patinated look we've left it as it is so that the buyer can decide for themselves whether or not to polish it. It's in excellent condition otherwise, though: there are no broken parts (except that key) whether metal or glass, no scratches or dents. The mechanism is entirely free of corrosion and works exactly as expected - we wound it, set it and checked it daily to ensure it was keeping time accurately, then waited for eight days to make sure it kept going as long as promised.

Change of Mind
If when you receive your order you are not completely satisfied, you may return the items to us within 30 days for a refund. Returns will be processed within three working days once the goods have been received by us.

Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.
It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
