Description

The entry level D60 was Nikon's top-selling camera for several years when the Japanese manufacturer decided it was time to retire it back in 2009, so when they designed its replacement they wanted to make sure the yen kept rolling in - and the D3000 certainly didn't disappoint, taking everything that was good about its predecessor and building on it. Resolution remained at 10.2MP simply because, with the 23.6 x 15.8 mm CCD sensor, the photosites (a much better indication of final quality that megapixels, as any serious photographer will tell you) were large enough to lead in the camera's class), as did the 12-bit Expeed processor, but the screen was increased to 3" from 2.5". More importantly, the autofocus received a big update - from 3 points to 11, with an autotracking system originally developed for the professional D200 model added for good measure, thus making a very versatile camera able to track and photograph moving objects, whereas the D60 had been awkward with anything that didn't stay still.

Whilst the D3000 has been around for more than 12 years, it remains an excellent, very capable and usable camera to this day and is easily able to beat any compact camera in terms of quality. However, as camera technology has advanced constantly ever since, the model hasn't held its value so, if you've been using compacts and want to improve your knowledge and skills with the versatility of a DSLR, it's an excellent and very affordable choice especially if you can find one with such an exceptionally low shutter count as this one - just 1754 actuations of Nikon's stated average shutter life of 100,000 actuations.

It's in excellent condition overall: the screen is spotless and the battery cover, SD card slot cover and AV/USB Out cover are all attached and in full working order. The hotshoe shows no wear and is protected by a plastic cover; the built-in flash works but, as is common with entry-level models of this vintage, is sticky and requires a little help to free it from its catch. The body and tripod mount are perfect without any scratches, marks or wear, as is the lens mount. There is no body cap, but the mirror and sensor appear to be spotless. We're supplying the camera with a Nikon EN-EL9a battery, PAT-tested Nikon MH-23 fast charger and mains adaptor, strap, USB cable, original manual, CD Rom reference manual, CD Rom software suite, various other literature and an after-market Tamrac carrying case. Please note that as is common with SLRs and DSLRs, no lens is included.

About Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Its 'Outstanding' services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping them to make every moment count.

More than 4,100 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients' own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Day Therapy and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £8.56 million in 2020/2021 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. £4.29 million has currently been secured from the NHS, meaning that £4.27 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
