Back when I was a teenager I was, like most teens in the early 1990s, never without a personal stereo - and when Panasonic released the RQ-S30 in 1994, it was widely considered to be the one to have: it was priced lower than comparable models from rival manufacturers, but had some very worthwhile features including TPS (Tape Program Sensor, which enabled the device to detect individual songs on the tape rather than leaving the user shuttling back and forth to find them - something which was very useful indeed when most of what you listened to was recorded off pirate radio stations on whichever cassettes were cheapest in Argos, as it reduced stress on the tape and helped prevent breakage) and, according to legend at least, better bass boost than anything else around (something which was especially important if, like me, you were a raver).

It's not worth going into the various other finer points of the item here because, unfortunately, this one isn't working and is being sold for spares or repair - and if you're looking for vintage personal stereos for spares or repair, you probably already know about the rechargeable batteries (there's two included with this one, both untested), the removable caddy for a single AA battery, the twin rotor motors, the twin stabiliser head, AMS and so on and so forth (hi Techmoan, if you're reading this). Instead, we'll mention the fact that the original earphones with in-line remote control are included (and do work), and the whole lot is supplied in the original cardboard box which, due to the style and large amount of kanji text, suggests this may be a Japanese home market model rather than one intended for export. Please do note, though, that the battery charger is missing.

The device is in excellent cosmetic condition without any signs of use - there are no scratches or cracks at all, nor wear to the text and logos on the shell. The cassette compartment is spotless and there is no trace of corrosion or dirt to the battery contacts in the rechargeable battery compartment or the caddy. The box, as seen in the photos, has some minor scuffs and a small mark below the manufacturer's name on the front, but is otherwise very good without splits, rips or water damage.

Delivery

Delivery times are calculated in working days (Monday to Friday). If your order is placed after 1pm, the next working day will be considered the first working day for delivery. Some low-value items will be sent by Royal Mail 2nd Class. Some items of higher value are sent by Royal Mail Signed For or Special Delivery, which requires a signature. If you are not present at the time of delivery, a card will be left instructing you to arrange a redelivery, or to collect your order from the local sorting office.

Returns

Change of Mind

If when you receive your order you are not completely satisfied, you may return the items to us within 30 days for a refund. Returns will be processed within three working days once the goods have been received by us.

Items must be returned to us in the same condition as they were received by you. This includes, but is not limited to: original packaging, original boxes, packaging materials, manuals, blank warranty cards, accessories and documents. We reserve the right to refuse a return or deduct an amount for lost value where the item is returned in a different condition.
