Description

Steepletone's retro-styled Turntable Encode System looks just like a late 1970s or early 1980s record player (well, apart from the large blue LCD display), but it's actually an up-to-date all-in-one music centre with a couple of hidden aces up its sleeve: in addition to playing 33, 45 and 78rpm records, it can also play MP3s from SD cards or USB media storage devices - and even more impressively, can convert the music on your precious records into digital MP3 files and save them to an SD card or via USB to an MP3 player, computer and so on.

The benefits of doing so are two-fold. Firstly, you can digitise your record collection and carry it with you everywhere you go - unless you're a really serious record collector, you'll be able to fit all the music you own onto even a cheap and basic MP3 player, computer or SD card. Secondly, every single time a record is played erodes a minute amount of the shellac or vinyl it's made from so that, over time, audio quality is reduced and eventually the record can no longer be played - but if you digitise your collection, you can play the MP3s instead and preserve your precious records. Thanks to an auxiliary input, you can even digitise cassettes, CDs and any other media format that can be played on any device fitted with an auxiliary output socket.

The front fascia is well thought-out and clearly labelled, making it very easy to use: to play music, simply select between Aux (auxiliary devices), Phono (records), USB and SD, adjust the volume and enjoy - you don't even need speakers as the System has built-in stereo speakers, though more serious music fans will be pleased to note the RCA L+R sockets round the back for connection to a standalone amplifier and hi-fi speakers (there's a subwoofer output too for richer bass). To record, simply choose the source (phono or aux), press record and it'll do all the technical stuff for you, detecting where tracks start and end, creating the digital files and recording them to SD or via USB. If you're digitising media such as cassettes which, over time, often stiffen up and play too slow, you can adjust pitch to correct the speed. And thanks to that big blue LCD display, it's easy to follow what's going on!

Like all the electronic items we sell, this device has been professionally PAT tested and is certified safe and ready to use. It's also been bench tested and was found to be in full working order - all the features and functions operate correctly, and sound quality is as expected (but much better when connected to proper speakers). It's fitted with a UK-type plug, so it takes literally seconds to set up. There are a few scuffs and scratches to the clear plastic turntable cover, but these are entirely cosmetic and do not affect use. The fascia is still covered in protective film - the apparent scratches and marks seen in the photo affect the film only, once peeled off the marks will be removed.

Please note that this item does not include a remote control. The manual has been lost, but is available for free download at https://www.manualslib.com/manual/760439/Steepletone-St929r.html

About Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Its ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping them to make every moment count.

Around 4,000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
