Stentor was established as a supplier of rosin and violin strings as long ago as 1895 and, since the 1960s, has become the world's leading producer of high-quality, affordable student violins in a range of sizes to suit all players, and is the brand most recommended by music teachers. More than a million of their student models have been sold, and many of the young violinists who started out with a Stentor have gone on to become professional musicians.

Since 1995 most Stentor instruments, including this example, have been made at the company's factory in China; however, the switch from British production did not bring with it a reduction in quality - the company continues to source and use only the finest materials and components, but can now offer its violins, violas, cellos and double basses at even better prices.

This model is a ½-size instrument with a body length of 12.5" (50.8cm) and two bows in the correct 24.5" (62.2cm) size, making it suitable for players with a 20" (50.8cm) arm length which roughly corresponds to an age range of between 7 and 9 years - it is recommended to properly measure arm length and buy an instrument according to that rather than relying on age range so as to ensure a correct fit. Total length of the instrument, from the tip of the scroll to the lower bout, is 20.5" (52cm), and it weights 330g (11.64oz) without the rests.

It's in very good condition without cracks, but does have several scratches to the body, some wear to the varnish of the purfling and a little residue on the fingerboard where some stickers have been removed; fortunately, none of these faults affect the instrument when playing. The scroll, peg box, pegs, fine tuners, tailpiece and button are all in good order and ought to give many more years service; the strings are playable but will probably need to be replaced before too long. The bows are very similar in appearance but are not identical; both are straight and currently usable but they'll need new hair in the near future.

The instrument is supplied with an optional wooden chin rest and a lightweight carry case in blue nylon. The chin rest is in good shape; the case has been damp at some point and as a result has some water damage including discolouration and sticky zips; however, it remains usabl and the moulded handle is firmly attached.

Some low-value items will be sent by Royal Mail 2nd Class. Some items of higher value are sent by Royal Mail Signed For or Special Delivery, which requires a signature. If you are not present at the time of delivery, a card will be left instructing you to arrange a redelivery, or to collect your order from the local sorting office.

Change of Mind

If when you receive your order you are not completely satisfied, you may return the items to us within 30 days for a refund. Returns will be processed within three working days once the goods have been received by us.

Items must be returned to us in the same condition as they were received by you. This includes, but is not limited to: original packaging, original boxes, packaging materials, manuals, blank warranty cards, accessories and documents. Around 4,000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
