If you know anything about guitars, you'll know the name Washburn - the Chicago-based company started making them in 1883 when it started up as part of the (George Washburn) Lyon & (Patrick J.) Healy instrument making firm, which can trace its history back another twenty years.Washburn has always been known as a maker of quality instruments - one of their 1898 models cost $145, which was an enormous sum at that time - and along the way they've been responsible for several innovations including the first dreadnought body guitar in 1912, along with numerous improvements in the manufacturing process which allowed them to make excellent guitars that could be sold cheaper than anyone else.
The company went through several changes over the years and even experienced a long hiatus before the brand was revived in the late 1970s, so it's arguable if the Washburn of today is truly the same Washburn founded 140 years ago. Either way, the modern Washburn is proud of its heritage and long tradition of building fine instruments for guitarists who insist on quality. With the Heritage series, they pay homage to that tradition.
The WD10SB is one of the Heritage guitars and, as expected, it's an excellent instrument, produced to the highest standards from the best materials: the solid top is Sitka spruce and the neck, sides and back are mahogany (which is listed under CITES; hence we can't offer overseas shipping on this one), creating rich, mellow tones that are enhanced even further by the use of cathedral peak scalloping - a type of internal bracing which, many guitarists will tell you, improves the sound even more as the guitar ages. Washburn shaved a little off the recommended retail price by using ovangkol instead of rosewood for the fretboard and bridge - rosewood is increasingly scarce and thus increasingly expensive, but ovangkol has similar density and durability making it an excellent choice for this use. It's a slightly lighter in colour, a more chocolate brown than the darker shade of rosewood, but has the same fine grain.
There's a 2-way truss inside the neck, giving the guitar greater structural rigidity so that it can be fully strung with steel strings, and the tuners are Washburn-branded chrome-plated diecast units - cheaper than some specialist brands, but still excellent quality. It has 20 frets marked with pearloid dots to match the decoration on the headstock and a scale length of 25 and 5/16ths of an inch; the nut is Nubone like most are these days and measures an inch and 11/16ths.
Like any guitar that has been played, this one has a few scuffs and scars which we've tried to show very clearly in the photos - something which fortunately isn't hard to do, because cameras always make even tiny defects in gloss black guitar bodies look more obvious than they really are. The worst scuffs are the scratch and indentations on the the lower bout, but even these are minor and have no effect on playing or how the guitar sounds - which is fortunate, because it sounds beautiful. All Washburns sound good, but they hit the jackpot with this one - the combination of quality tonewoods and the cathedral peak scallops come together to create a honeyed, rich voice, all melodious tones and warmth. All is all, a gorgeous looking and gorgeous sounding guitar.

Change of Mind
If when you receive your order you are not completely satisfied, you may return the items to us within 30 days for a refund. Returns will be processed within three working days once the goods have been received by us.
Items must be returned to us in the same condition as they were received by you. This includes, but is not limited to: original packaging, original boxes, packaging materials, manuals, blank warranty cards, accessories and documents. Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.
It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
