Description

Ever since production began in 1952, Russian firm Zenit has been manufacturing high-quality cameras and optical gear which even during the days of the Soviet Union were in high demand with militaries and surveillance professionals throughout Europe and beyond.

Compact, robust and ergonomic design with no visible-spectrum exterior lights makes the Zenit NV100 the ideal choice for a range of covert purposes including wildlife observation, security and surveillance. The scope and the infrared lamp are powered by two standard AA batteries (lithium recommended for longevity), making it easy to carry enough power to keep going through the night without having to worry about finding somewhere to plug in a charger.

One of the contacts has snapped off inside the battery compartment; an issue which could be properly rectified by dismantling the device - rather than do so, we've repurposed a contact taken from another item which can be placed inside with the battery to complete the circuit; this modification works perfectly, and we will supply the contact with the scope. Otherwise, it's in excellent condition and has been bench tested to ensure it's in fully working order. There are no scratches or cracks in the outer shell and the hand strap is in good order. The camera-type hotshoe plate, which supplies power to the IR lamp, is protected by a slide-on/off cover which has kept it clean and working perfectly. The on/off switch on the back of the device is also fully operational, as is the dioptre adjustment. The device is supplied in a black nylon soft case with the IR lamp and shoulder strap, complete with the original Russian instruction manual and an English translation, quality control documents and other literature and our modified battery contact.

The NV100 is supplied with two excellent lenses. The first is a Helios 58mm prime (fixed focal length) for pin-sharp focus from 0.55 metres to infinity and an aperture range of f/2 to f/16, enabling it to deliver high resolution images in all lighting conditions from twilight to near total darkness (and, with the supplied infrared illuminator lamp fitted, even in total darkness up to approximately 80 metres) and making it a perfect lens for close-up work. The second, for when it's essential to maintain distance from the target, is a superb Yashica 75-230mm zoom with aperture of f/4 right through the range (and a tripod mount, because it's a big, heavy lens) - more than enough for everything from moderate to long distance observation, and ideal for wildlife when you need to stay back to avoid scaring your subject away. The lens mount system is the common Zeiss M42 screw-on type as used by many vintage Praktica and Pentax cameras, meaning there's a vast range of affordable second-hand lenses in all focal lengths from wide angle to ultra-telephoto available at affordable prices.

Both lenses feature all-metal barrels for toughness and are in excellent condition - the focus, aperture and zoom rings are smooth and accurate, there is no wear or play in the mounts and the optics are clean without any trace of dust or other detritus within the barrels. The Yashica also features a hood to eliminate lens flare and "ghost images" in bright moonlight and a leather-effect drawstring carry case, and both are supplied with lens caps.

About Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Its ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping them to make every moment count.

Around 4,000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.

It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. The Charity is extremely grateful to the local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting towards meeting this target.
